We were delighted to attend the first Holyrood Repair Café event at the Scottish Parliament on 6th October 2026 which was sponsored by Lorna Slater MSP, and hosted by Circular Communities Scotland.
In the last session of parliament circular economy legislation was passed with cross party support, and in this session the actions needed to move us forward in this transition will be delivered. Community repair cafes are already playing an important role in this and take place regularly across Scotland. They provide affordable, convenient places for people to have electricals, textiles and other items repaired and offer sustainable alternatives to buying new products.
MSPs were able to show their support for and celebrate the action being taken to reduce waste, save people money, share skills, and build stronger communities. They were able to see demonstrations of repair skills by volunteers from 12 different community repair projects, of which we were one, and meet representatives from the wider community of repair projects across Scotland, and other circular community organisations.
There were also speakers on the impact and value circular community organisations bring and how we can support the transition to a circular economy in a way that delivers environmental, social and economic benefits.
Thank you to Tom Arthur and Neil Bibby MSPs for popping by and showing their support.
