As the Houston Community Growing Association, a great deal of time was spent exploring what might be possible, learning about community growing, understanding the land and working through the practicalities of establishing a community growing project. That groundwork has been incredibly valuable.
Now, as Gryffe Growing Grounds, we want to take the next step. Gryffe Growing Grounds has become an independent project under Creating a Sustainable Gryffe, which gives the project organisational support and a foundation to continue developing further.
Our aim is to build momentum, talk to more people across our community and turn the vision into something tangible.
We want to create a project that is rooted in our village and shaped by the people who live here.
At the heart of Gryffe Growing Grounds is a simple belief: our local land has value beyond its potential for development. We want to see our green spaces protected and cared for, and we want to explore ways that our land can actively give something back to the community and vice versa.
We believe that means growing food, creating opportunities to learn and volunteer, connecting people with nature, supporting wellbeing, encouraging biodiversity, and simply providing a place where people can come together.
We want to hear from the community:
What would you like to see?
What could this space mean to you?
What would make you want to get involved?
The next stage is about building the people and partnerships around the project so that we can start turning possibilities into reality.
You don’t need to be a gardener. You don’t need to have lots of spare time. You don’t need to know anything about growing.
You might have an idea.
You might have a skill to share.
You might simply want to see our village become greener and more connected.
Everyone has something to contribute.
