This month, a small delegation of us went on a Community Learning Exchange Visit to Linlithgow Community Development Trust to find out more about what it means to be a Development Trust, which is what we aspire to become.
After more than a decade, LCDT have become an anchor organisation at the heart of the community, managing a range of projects, including a community owned solar project which helps to fund their services. We were particularly interested in their Share and Repair and Active Travel projects which they run from their premises right in the middle of the high street. Within this space, they host a a Repair Shop, a Tool Library and a Shed.
This integrated approach seems to have many benefits. We have an ambition to develop a Gryffe Library of Things to run in conjunction with our Repair Projects, and some space to run Repair workshops. It was good to see similar projects in action.
If you know of any suitable premises/ community space within the area of Bridge of Weir and Houston, please get in touch.
Another lesson we learned was the value in linking with other community groups. We are consciously building our local network, but if you are are a community group who wish to find out more or are interested in working with us, we would love to hear from you.
